Untact Dementia Treatment System
Following the closure of the Seoul Metropolitan Center for Dementia as a result of COVID-19 and “to respond to emergency situations such as urgent treatment of high-risk elders,” the launch of “remote dementia screenings” that combine “untact treatment with visiting nursing services” was introduced in Gangdong-gu. Equipment for remote screenings “will be provided by the Center for Dementia” and given that “recipients of the examination are advanced in age and unfamiliar with use of digital devices, employees will be on the site of remote treatment to aid with the use of laptops, speakers, and access to apps for comfortable physical examinations at home.” Gangdong-gu’s mayor explained that the “remote screening was introduced as a model for future examinations to resolve the gap in dementia care” and that through the program “elders who are at high risk with dementia” will receive support “to overcome this difficult time with health.”
