Costa Rica Launches Financial Program for Women Who Protect Natural Resources
The Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE) together with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), as well as the Office of the First Vice President of the Republic, launched the “+Women +Nature” program “to mitigate the socio-economic impacts generated by the global pandemic.” The program “aims to strengthen the economic autonomy of women, facing up to gender gaps in nature management and progress towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.” The project provides “three financial mechanisms that will inject resources into women [sic] work that directly contribute to safeguarding Costa Rican natural capital” and biodiversity.
