Visa Extensions for Health Workers During Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Date Enacted: March 2020

Eligibility for one-year visa extensions was granted to qualifying health workers and their family members whose visas were set to expire between April 1 and September 30 2021 and who “work for the NHS [National Health Service] or an independent healthcare provider in an eligible profession.” The list of professions includes approximately 20 categories ranging from medical practitioners to midwives to psychologists to social workers. Provisions are also made for those who have already applied for extensions such that payments can be claimed for those who have already paid fees for visa extensions.
